Obituary

Steven Scott Hanson, age 44, of Sinai, tragically passed away from an accident while target practicing.  Steve was returning from target shooting, and while crossing a cattle panel fence, his firearm malfunctioned.  Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 18, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in Volga.  Visitation will be from 3-6 P.M. on Sunday September 17th also at First Lutheran Church.  Burial will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at First Lutheran Cemetery in Volga.  Memorial donations are preferred.  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Steven was born on April 19, 1979, to Bradley and Linda (Steever) Hanson in Madison, South Dakota.  He attended school in various locations throughout his youth, later going on to earn his GED.  On February 15, 2013, Steven was united in marriage to Jama Knutson.

Throughout his adult life Steven worked for companies such as 3M, Agropur in Lake Norden, and Clark Drew Construction, but it was his own private construction business that brought him the most joy for many years.  Steven was a master of many trades including masonry, carpentry, and construction, and he truly enjoyed working for himself while helping others with their projects.

Steven was a true outdoorsman, enjoying pheasant and deer hunting, target shooting, riding horses, bonfires, camping and tending to the hobby farm that he shared with his family.  He also enjoyed snowmobiling and working with his father trail riding.  Steven's family and friends were especially important to him.  He was a notorious prankster and loved playing jokes on them.  Steven often lent his wealth of technical knowledge to his family and friends as well-he was always there to help fix something when they needed him.  Steven will be remembered as an excellent husband, father, son, brother, and uncle to his family as well as an exceptional friend.  He worked hard to provide for his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his children, teaching them various skills around the farm.

Steven is survived by his wife, Jama Hanson; children: Devon Jensen, Breanna Jensen, Zadie Hanson, and James Hanson; his mother, Linda Gerhardt; his grandmother, Shirley Steever; siblings: Joe (Nicole) Hanson, Tonya Hanson, and Tony Hanson; father-in-law Jim Knutson; brother-in-law Jared (Kari) Knutson; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Nicole; brother, Shannon; his father, Brad; his grandparents: Dorothy (Ellsworth) Hanson and Ted Steever; his mother-in-law, Carrie Knutson; and brother-in-law, Jereme Knutson.
