Zachery Dayton Matthews, age 28, of Brookings and formerly of Lake Preston, SD, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the Brookings ER.  A private family graveside service will be held at the Lake Preston Cemetery.  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Zachery was born on August 13, 1992, to Stephen and Susan (Hanson) Matthews in Fayetteville, N.C.  He lived in Hope Mills, N.C. until 2001.  At which time, his family moved to Lake Preston, SD.  Zachery graduated from Lake Preston High School in 2011.  He then attended Lake Area Technical College in Watertown.

Zachery enjoyed hanging out with friends, listening to music, and he was especially fond of hockey.  He starting working in 2013 in grain bin construction, and continued in that field until the time of his death.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Susan (Randy) Nesseim of Lake Preston; brothers, Chris (Christina) Jones, Joshua (Laura) Jones; step-brothers, Ryan Nesseim, Ronnie Nesseim; step-sister, Bobbie (Brian) Lingbeck; nieces and nephews, Jaycee, Toren, Alliyah, Jaxon, Beynon, Brynnlee, Brenton, Bryler and Lane. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Stephen Matthews.
