Willis Meyer, 92, of Brookings, passed away on March 8, 2024, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings. Services for both Willis and his beloved wife, Jo Ann will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, with a time of visitation being held from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White, SD. A prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the chapel, and burial will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery in White.
Willis was born April 16, 1931, in Bushnell, SD, the youngest son of Ernest & Ella (Ehiler) Meyer. He was raised on the farm in rural Bushnell where he received his education at Bushnell School, and Brookings High School.
Willis was united in marriage to Jo Ann Kurtz on December 27, 1950 in Brookings, SD. He served in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954 during the Korean War. After returning home from the military he farmed for 37 years in rural Bushnell. Upon retiring from farming Willis worked at Agri Pro, Pau Seeds Inc., Larson Manufacturing & The City of Brookings.
Willis was a member of the American Legion Post #88 in White, SD. He served on the Alton Township Board and the Bushnell School Board.
Willis was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, sports, giving tractor driving lessons to his nieces and nephews as well as spending time with family & friends.
Willis is survived by his three sons Steven (Sally), of Manhattan, KS, Kent (Kathy) of Kaspelli, MT, and Craig (Coralie) of Wellington, CO, four grandchildren Stephanie (John) Henton of Leonardville, KS, Emily Meyer of
Zephyrhills, FL, Nicholas (Tiara) Meyer of South Lake Tahoe, CA and Courtnie (Meyer) Johnson of Fort Collins, CO. and nine great grandchildren Braydon, Trenton, Bailey, Kenzie, Bryce, Dallas, Belle, Elijah, & Emerson.
He is preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann (Kurtz) Meyer his parents, and brothers, Elmer Meyer and Melvin Meyer.
