William "Bill" McMacken, age 78, of Brookings, died Sunday, March 6, 2016, at the Golden Living Center in Arlington. Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2016, at First Lutheran Church in Brookings. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitations will be 4-6 p.m., Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Home.

Bill was born August 28, 1937, to Norris and Katherine (Waddell) McMacken in Garden City, South Dakota. He attended school in Bradley, SD, and entered the United States Marines at the age of 17. He completed his GED during his service. After his honorable discharge, Bill moved to Big Stone City, SD, and began driving truck. It was at Big Stone City where Bill met his future wife, Lilly Kruse. They were married on November 17, 1962, in Ortonville, MN. The couple continued to live at Big Stone City until 1973. At that time, Bill and Lilly moved their family to White, SD and then to Brookings in 1980. Bill spent the last forty years working in the Brookings area.

Bill was a member of First Lutheran Church in Brookings. He had a passion for hunting and fishing. Bill rarely missed Saturday Coffee with the guys.

Survivors include his wife, Lilly; children, Scott (Lynette) McMacken of Brookings, Cathy (Howie) Harrenga of Estelline, Craig (Suzee) McMacken of Brookings, Billy (Carley) McMacken of Brookings, Kristi (Tim) Rusten of Brandon, and Chris (Samantha, Fiancé) of Minneapolis, MN; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Charles (Peg) of Lakeville, MN, and Roy (Marcia) of Anna Marie, FL; and one sister, Karen Ellis of Watertown, SD. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joanne and Janice.
