William H. Kallemeyn, 88, of Brookings, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 25, 2003, at First Presbyterian Church in Brookings with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings and preceding services at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated for the American Cancer Society or Brookview Manor. William Henry Kallemeyn was born November 28, 1914, in Hamlin County, South Dakota, to Clarence E. and Margaret (TeKrony) Kallemeyn. He attended country schools and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1932. On February 1, 1936, he married Margurite Thoelke at Brookings. She died January 12, 2001. Bill worked for the creamery in Clear Lake and completed the dairy short course at SDSU in 1942. He was the superintendent of the college creamery from 1943 until 1946 when he and his brother Lawrence purchased Moxen Dairy. They partnered with John Bibby in the Bibby-Kallemeyn Dairy from 1960 until 1979 when they sold the business. Bill served as an elder, deacon, and trustee of First Presbyterian Church, and he was active in the Mens Brotherhood. He was a member and past president of the South Dakota Dairy Association. He was a member of the Brookings Chamber of Commerce and received the Gip Nolan Award for community service in 1996. He was a member of the Elks and the Brookings Kiwanis Club, of which he was a past president. He enjoyed traveling, reading, and playing cards. Survivors include his three sons: Norman (Bobbie) Kallemeyn of Sevierville, Tennessee, Larry (Jo) Kallemeyn of International Falls, Minnesota, and Earl (Stephena) Kallemeyn of Carroll, Iowa; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Lawrence; and a sister, Ellen Hensley.
