William E. Bartling, 53, of Brookings, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. William Earl Bartling was born April 27, 1950, at Roswell, New Mexico, to George and Betty (Collins) Bartling. He grew up and graduated from high school in Apple Valley, California, and received a bachelors degree from Whittier College. On May 6, 1973, he married Anne Faulkner in San Diego, California. In 1976 they moved to Brookings to operate the Bartling family farm. Bill was an avid golfer in college. He enjoyed hunting, and he took great pride in his farm. Survivors include his wife, Anne, of Brookings; two daughters, Angela and Christa Bartling; a granddaughter, Audriana; a sister, Brenda (Charles) Furlong, of Boston, Massachusetts; aunts, uncles, cousins; and his beloved dog, Angus.
