Wayne D. Ellingson, age 64, of Brookings, died Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 7:00 P.M. Friday, October 29, 2010, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with interment at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 2, at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 31, at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church at Highlandville, Iowa. Memorials will be donated to a scholarship fund in Waynes name.

Wayne Davis Ellingson was born December 30, 1945, at Decorah, Iowa, to Lester and Ellen (Amundson) Ellingson. He attended school in Decorah and was active in the Decorah Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps, football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. He was a member of the National Honor Society. He received a bachelors degree in mathematics from Iowa State University in 1970.

Wayne served in the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War. On February 24, 1973, he married Susan Razskazoff. Wayne was an instructor of economics and statistics at SDSU in Brookings. He served on the Brookings Park and Recreation board, Brookings Ice Skating Association board, and as a South Dakota Hockey Registrar. He coached soccer, baseball, and hockey. He was a member of the American Statistical Association. His special interests included baseball, the Green Bay Packers, gardening, economic policy, and doing home improvement projects. He loved to cook.

Survivors include his wife, Sue, of Brookings; two sons: Brad and his wife Kate, of Springfield, Illinois, and Tim and his fianc Maggie of Minnetonka, Minnesota; two grandchildren: Jamie and Ashlyn; a brother, Dennis (Beka) Ellingson of Decorah, Iowa; and a sister, Karen Castle of Murphys, California. He was preceded in death by his parents.
