Walter J. "Pulley" Olson, age 97, of Sinai, died Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at Sinai Lutheran Church, with interment in the West Sinai Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Walter James Olson was born February 6, 1915, on the family farm near Sinai--the same farm where he would live for the next 97 years. He graduated from Sinai High School in 1934. On January 21, 1951, he married Christine Christensen at Brookings. Pulley and Christine continued on the family farm, raising livestock, and helping out the neighbors with their stock as well. Pulley was a pioneer shipper to the Sioux Falls Stockyards. Pulley was a confirmed, lifetime member of Sinai Lutheran Church, and he had served as a trustee. He was a long-time member of the Lake Sinai Township board. He enjoyed square dancing and visiting with friends and family. Survivors include his wife, Christine; three children: Robert "Bobby" (Joan) Olson of Volga, Kathy (David) Murray of Straftord, South Dakota, and Steven (Maricel) Olson of Volga; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Harriet Skattum, of Hills, Minnesota; and a special nephew Art Vander Waal.
