He attended rural Bangor Township #2 school and graduated from Sinai High School. He attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls until he was called to serve his country in the Korean Conflict.
Wallace married Audrey Bolstad on October 15, 1950 at the West Sinai Lutheran church. Shortly thereafter Wallace reported to basic training in Colorado Springs, Colorado where they made their first home. Wallace and Audrey also lived in Fort Knox, Kentucky until Wallace was honorably discharged from the Army.
Wallace and Audrey returned to the family farm north of Sinai where they partnered in a farming and livestock operation and welcomed children, Kristen, Daniel, Douglas and David. Wallace was a lifelong member of Sinai Lutheran Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon and congregational president. He was an active member of the community serving on many committees and boards, including; the Sinai Coop Elevator, Northeast Grain Terminal, Quail Evenson American Legion Post No. 133, M2M Prison Ministry and the Brookings County Commission.
Wallace enjoyed working with his hands, especially the craft of lapidary which he perfected during the many winters at their home in Mesa, Arizona. He created many pieces of jewelry for family and friends. Woodworking and carving were also passions he enjoyed. His work was recognized by the Veterans Administration at their annual exhibitions in Sioux Falls. In 2020 his work was submitted to the National VA competition. Recently Wallace began shaping cedar walking sticks. He completed his 50th walking stick just a few weeks ago.
Following Audrey's passing in 2015 Wallace remained in their lake home north of Sinai until he moved to StoneyBrook where he enjoyed many hours playing cards with friends. He also resided at the Arlington Care Center and finally at ULC in Brookings. The family appreciates the staff that cared for Wallace over the years.
His failing eyesight led him to discover the South Dakota State Library Talking Book Program which provided him with countless hours of enjoyment.
