Wallace Hulsebus, age 81, of White, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at First Baptist Church in White, with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Military rites will be given by Higgins-Jessen American Legion Post No. 88 of White. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White.
Wallace Henry Hulsebus was born January 4, 1929, at Hendricks, Minnesota, to Henry and Lena (Fischer) Hulsebus. He attended country school near White, and then served in the U.S. Army. On January 10, 1950, he married Betty Bedow at the Tyler Baptist Church. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.
Wallace and Betty farmed all their married life, until retiring and moving into White. Wallace was a humble man who enjoyed farming and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He played the guitar for his own enjoyment and for others in a group. In his youth he hunted and rode horseback. He was baptized a member of First Baptist Church on August 22, 1943.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hulsebus, of White; four children: LaVonne (Bob) Johnson of Portland, Oregon, Dan (Debbie) Hulsebus of Carrollton, Texas, Doreen (Charles) Hanson of Ortonville, Minnesota, and Iann Schulz of Jasper, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Harold Hulsebus of Columbus, Nebraska, Richard (Sylvia) Hulsebus of Tyler, Texas, and Edward (Maxine) Hulsebus of White, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane; a grandson, Christopher Storlien; and an infant granddaughter, April Mary Storlien.
