W. Elaine Tucker, age 98, of Volga, passed away Wednesday October 7, 2020, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, beginning at 2:00 p.m.  A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow the funeral in Trinity Cemetery at Volga. Please note that due to city mandate, masks are required in the funeral home.

Elaine was born on December 25, 1921, to George O. and Winifred (Ackerman) Cotton at Volga, S.D. She attended Volga Elementary School and graduated from Volga High School in 1939. After high school, Elaine attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois and graduated from Eastern State Normal College in Madison, S.D. in 1942. Elaine went on to teach school for two years at Marion, S.D. until 1944.

In June of 1944, Elaine married Vern Tucker. They lived on a farm north of Volga for three years before moving into Volga in 1947. At which time, Vern joined Cotton and Company Grain Elevator until his death in 1973. Elaine continued to live in Volga and was a teacher's aide and librarian assistant at the Sioux Valley School from 1974 to 1991.

Elaine was a former member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, where she was active in Ladies' Aide and the Missionary Society. Elaine was currently a member of First Reformed Church; where she participated in Ladies' Bible Study.  She was also a member of the Fortnightly Club, Extension Club, a neighbor Bible study group, and a member of the Gideons International Auxiliary since 1946. Elaine enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting, quilting, reading, playing the piano, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Wayne (Carolyn) Tucker of Volga, Randy (Kathy) Tucker of Sioux Falls, Gerry (Sue) Tucker of Volga, and Linda (John) David of Monument, Colorado; six grandsons; eight granddaughters; nine great-grandsons; ten great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Eugene (Marjorie) Cotton; three sisters, Edythe (Bill) Pakala, Esther (Helmer) Carlson, and Eleanor (Lloyd) Kallevig; her son, Donald; her daughter-in-law Beverly; and two infant great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude for the outstanding care and kindness Elaine received over the last six years at both Dakota Sun Assisted Living and The Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings.
