Virginia Mamie Murphy was born September 15, 1918, at Delta, Missouri, to John and Louella (Doyle) Foster. She died Monday, July 14, 2003, at Brookview Manor in Brookings, South Dakota. Virginia grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and attended grade school and two years of high school there. In 1936, she married William Degnan. In 1958, she married Norbert Murphy in St. Louis, Missouri. Virginia moved to Brookings in 1991. Virginia was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Parish. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. Survivors include: a daughter, Mary (Mel) Hagan, of Brookings, South Dakota; a step-brother, Terry (Jeannie) Murphy of California; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Kenneth Foster; and a daughter, Pat Jensen.
