Virginia Fixsen, age 80, of Elkton, died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Lake Norden, South Dakota. Visitations will be from 5:00-7:30 P.M. Tuesday, March 6, at Eidsness-Zink Funeral Chapel in Elkton, with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. Interment will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Mount Hope Cemetery at Watertown, South Dakota. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials. Virginia Doreen (Heathcote) Fixsen was born September 10, 1931, on a farmstead near Florence, South Dakota, to James E. and Bernice Briggs Helland Heathcote. She attended country school and graduated from Watertown High School. She took nurse's training at the Bartron Clinic in Watertown and for two weeks in Chicago. She worked for Dr. M.C. Thompson and Dr. George Thompson at the Thompson Clinic in Watertown. She married Arnie Fixsen, who preceded her in death. Virginia was a member of the Congregational Church and the Methodist Church in Watertown. She joined the United Parish of Elkton when she moved to Elkton to be closer to family. She was also a member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary and she served as treasurer of the Golden Agers in Elkton. Survivors include two daughters: Vickie (Jerry) Barthel of Lake Norden, South Dakota, and Deb (Randy) Bailly of Watertown, South Dakota; two grandsons: Jerry (Karen) Barthel Jr. of Brookings and James (Kandy) Barthel of Elkton; two granddaughters: Tammy (Josh) Crofutt of Elkton and Ryanne (James Cram) Bailly of Watertown; eight great-grandsons: Jordan Barthel, Jonathon Barthel, Zach Barthel, Alex Barthel, Braeden Barthel, Maison Cram, Daden Crofutt, and Jax Cram; a great-granddaughter, Ella Crofutt; and two great-great-grandchildren: Madisen Marie Waletzke Barthel and Aiden Mich Barthel.
