Obituary

Violet M. Kalousek, age 77, of Elkton, died Monday, June 16, 2008, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 21, 2008, at the United Parish of Elkton, with interment in the Elkton City Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Friday at Eidsness-Zink Funeral Chapel in Elkton. Violet May (Thomsen) Kalousek was born July 15, 1930, in Liberty Township, Scott County, near Big Rock, Iowa, to Frank and Carrie (Krauser) Thomsen. She moved with her family to South Dakota when she was two years old. She attended country school northeast of Elkton. In 1954 she married Alver F. Kalousek at White, South Dakota. The couple farmed all their married life near Elkton. Violet cleaned houses in Brookings and also did many years of wallpapering and painting for others. She was baptized May 21, 2008, at the Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, by the hospital chaplain. Violet enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking, baking, and scrapbooking, and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Alver Kalousek, of Elkton; a son, Frank Kalousek, of Dell Rapids, South Dakota; two granddaughters: LiAnne Larson of California, and Sarah Larson of Egan, South Dakota; three great-grandchildren: Ian, Ashleigh, and Emma; a brother, Frank Thomsen, of Lake Benton, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers John, Ralph, LeRoy, and Bob, and a sister, Viola.
