Verna Mae Larson, age 78, of Brookings, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings with interment at a later date in Hills, Minnesota. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Verna Mae (Schneekloth) Larson was born May 7, 1931, at Hills, Minnesota, to Arnold and Mary (Sleeter) Schneekloth. She graduated from high school in Hills. In 1951 she married Neil McKnight, and on September 19, 1970, she married Marion Patch. Verna married Loren Larson on January 11, 1995.
Verna worked at Newberrys in Sioux Falls. She worked for various nursing homes in the Brookings area and worked for an in-home adult care agency. She worked for area steak houses, including Pat and Carrolls Supper Club in Lake Preston. She helped with Head Start in Brookings.
Verna enjoyed playing bingo, cards, and visiting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandkidsshe was know as Grandma Verna to many who often heard her say Swing and sway with Verna Mae. She liked to end her visits with God Bless.
Survivors include her husband, Loren Larson, of Volga; children: Lori (Mark) Martinson of Brookings, Coralee (Mike) Multerer of Brandon, SD, Julia Larson of Volga, Tennie Larson of El Reno, OK, Larry (Carol) Patch of Indianapolis, IN, Judy (Lee) Litz of Sioux Falls, SD, Doug (Sue) Patch of Loon Lake, WA, Re4ne Alexander of Sioux Falls, Linda (Rich) Slater of Smithville, MO, Lisa (David) Africano of Boulder Junction, WI, and Leah (Jim) Johnson of Lakeland, TN; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Stacy, Aaron, Amber, Drew, and Harley Jo; three sisters: Vivian Rollag of Sioux Falls, Mary Lou (Milton) Eitreim of Sun Lakes, AZ, and Avis (Merle) Amundson of Greenfield, IN; a brother, Roger (Jan) Schneekloth, of Sioux Falls; special friends, Jim and Carol Fryer, of Volga; and many adopted family members and kids.
