Verle G. Pike, age 92, formerly of Lake Preston, died Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at the United Living Community in Brookings. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2015, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Interment of cremated remains will be at the Lake Preston Cemetery. Verle G. Pike was born January 30, 1923, at Aurora, South Dakota, to Delbert A. and Caroline A. (Korte) Pike. He grew up in Aurora and Brookings, where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II. On May 5, 1947, he married Dorothee Brose. Verle was the service manager for the Ford dealership in Brookings, a telegraph agent for the Milwaukee Railroad, and then worked at Norwest Bank in Lake Preston for several years until his retirement. Verle was a member of Lake Preston Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking and dogs. Survivors include a daughter, Denise Pike, of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren: Scott (Michelle) McCoy of Dallas, Texas, Jony (Bob) Bruns of North Carolina, Justyn (Stacey) Hauck of Sioux Falls, and Jasmine Pike of Minneapolis, Minnesota; seven great-grandchildren: Tina, Dylan, Tristen, Korbyn, Sladyn, Caleb, and Ava; and a brother, Jerrel (Becky) Pike, of Georgetown, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2009; a sister, Marcella "Sissie" Hemmestad; and two daughters, Charon and Roben.
