Valerie Mullett, 62, of Volga, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.  A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Reformed Church in Volga.  A time of fellowship will immediately follow the service at the church.  Visitation will immediately precede the service from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M..  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the Mullett family with arrangements.

Valerie Ann Mullett was born on July 22, 1958, in New Haven, Connecticut to Joseph and Betty Vankleeck.  She graduated in June of 1976, from Cornwell, New York.  On July 22, 2005, Valerie married Bryon Mullett.  Valerie's family included her children, Jessica Plunkett and David Plunkett, step-daughter, Christine Mullett, grandson, Jordon Plunkett, and great-grandson Liam Jacob.

Valerie was employed with the U.S. Government for 28 years, where she retired.  She was a journalist, which she enjoyed and received the prestigious award for Civilian Achievement for initial notification and recovery of a UH 1 N Helicopter, along with many other awards.

Valerie was a member of the First Reformed Church in Volga, where was involved with mission.  Valerie enjoyed cooking, her special being Italian meals.  She also enjoyed helping others, and she would give her all to those in need.

Valerie is survived by her husband, Bryon, of Volga, SD; her children: Jessica Plunkett (Justin Wiltrout) and David Plunkett; step-daughter, Christine Mullett; grandson, Jordon Plunkett; great-grandson, Liam Plunkett; and a sister, Sandy Rathmann, of VA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Betty Vankleeck; and two brothers, Mark and Michael VanKleeck.
