Obituary

Tom Willmott, age 63, of White, died Monday, March 9, 2015, at the Brookings Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in White, with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated for the United Methodist Church parking lot fund or the White Fire Department. Thomas Charles Willmott was born May 4, 1951, at Brookings, South Dakota, to Darwin and Viola (Kruse) Willmott. He grew up on the family farm east of White, attended country school District No. 103, and graduated from Deubrook High School in 1969. He married Mavis Thompson on November 14, 1975, at White. Tom farmed east of White and also owned and operated Willmott Gravel. He was actively involved in the White community as a Jaycee and Boy Scout leader. He served in many offices in the United Methodist Church, as president of the White Community Club, and he was a member of the White Fire Department from 1988 until the present. He was a member of the Elks Club in Brookings and the elevator board in Hendricks, Minnesota, for sixteen years. Tom and Mavis enjoyed traveling, and they regularly followed the SDSU Jackrabbit basketball teams. Survivors include his wife, Mavis, of White; two sons: Chris (Kari) Willmott and Chad Willmott, both of White; a sister, Lonnie (Roger) Hansen of Sioux Falls; a brother, Randall (Cynthia) Willmott, of White; a brother-in-law, Duane Neuert, of Washington state; three grandchildren, Karissa, Collyn, and Cole; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Sharon Neuert.
