Obituary

Steven A. Olson, age 46, of Rapid City, formerly of Volga, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 18, 2003, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment at First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will precede services at the church on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 P.M. Steven Allan Olson was born January 15, 1957, at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Robert W. and Ardith (Young) Olson. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith. He resided with his family at Hills, Minnesota, until 1961 when he moved with his family to a farm near Volga. He became a resident of the Custer State Hospital in September 1963. He moved to the Black Hills Workshop in Rapid City in April 1995, where he resided until his death. Steven enjoyed television, music, water and outdoor activities, ice cream and cake. Those who rejoice in his new life are his parents, Robert W. and Ardith Olson, of Volga; four sisters: Patricia (Darrell) Seefeldt of Clark, South Dakota, Valerie Jackson of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, Carolyn (Robert) Eide of Rosholt, South Dakota, and Julie (Timothy) Pelican of Sonora, California; three nieces; seven nephews; and his loving family at the Black Hills Workshop. Heavens Very Special Child A meeting was held quite far from earth. It's time again for another birth, said the angels to the Lord above, this special child will need much love. His progress may seem very slow. Accomplishments he may not know, and he'll require extra care from the folks he meets down there. He may not run or laugh or play. His thoughts may seem quite far away, In many ways he wont adapt, and he'll be known as handicapped. So let's be careful where he's sent. We want his life to be content. Please Lord, find him parents who will do a special job for you. They will not realize it right away, the leading role they're asked to play. But with this child sent from above comes stronger faith and richer love. And soon they'll know the privilege given in caring for this gift from heaven. Their precious charge, so meek and mild, Is heaven's Very Special Child.
