Steve "Esty" Estenson passed away on December 14, 2023, following complications due to multiple medical issues.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings from 2:00 until 4:00.  A time of sharing memories and a short funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will take place on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at First Lutheran Cemetery in Brookings at 11:00 a.m.

Steve Allen Estenson was born on April 4, 1956, in Brookings, SD to Maurice and Velma (Voss) Estenson.  Steve attended school in Brookings, graduating from Brookings High School in 1974.  Steve was united in marriage to Dawn Gunderson on July 20, 1985 at McCrory Gardens in Brookings.  Steve worked his first job at the SDSU delivering mail, later working as a mechanic for many years at Lloyd's Interstate Amoco.  He later worked for Tom Bozied and Napa Auto Parts in Brookings before retiring due to disability.

Steve loved working on cars, especially classic cars and hot rods.  He also enjoyed riding his Honda motorcycle in his younger years and working with computers.  Steve could often be found watching car programs, westerns, history, and science channels in his free time.  Steve also loved to spend time with Dawn, wood-working and gardening together.  His personality and infectious smile were loved and will be missed by all.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Dawn; his sister Barbara Lobdell; his brother-in-law Dave Gunderson; his many nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice; his mother, Velma; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Opal and Harold Gunderson; his brother-in-law Dan Gunderson; his sister-in-law Deb Bothwell; and his very sweet dogs, Lena, Rufus, Spitzer, Spatzer, Presto, and Squirter; and his very loved cat, Hermette.
