Stella Tirrel died Friday, April 4, 2003, at the Hendricks Community Hospital in Hendricks, Minnesota, after a strong, courageous fight with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto, South Dakota. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White, South Dakota. Stella Marie (Schultz) Tirrel was born July 3, 1934, at Brookings, South Dakota, to Ernest and Dorothy (Weiner) Schultz. On June 14, 1958, she married James Roland Tirrel at Hendricks, Minnesota. Together they farmed in the Toronto/White area and moved into Astoria in 1996. Stella worked at the White Healthcare Center for 18 years, devoting her pride and unselfishness caring for the elderly. Stella and Jims greatest accomplishment was raising six children that show reflection of themselves in the faces of each child. She would be described as having the ability to look at the good in everything and everyone. Stella was a member of Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto. She enjoyed traveling, visiting her children, car races, gardening, playing cards, needlework, and crocheting. Survivors include six children: Richard (Vicki) Tirrel of River Falls, Wisconsin, Patricia (Wayne) Powell of Pensacola, Florida, Lois (Dale) Shaw of Colfax, Iowa, Joan (Randy) Murray of Glenham, South Dakota, Frank Tirrel of Astoria, South Dakota, and Lisa Sholes of Brookings, South Dakota; nine grandchildren: Kelli, Corisa, Jeffery, Lori, Emily Louise, Erin, Stephen, Trisha, and Emily; two great-grandchildren: Rebecca and Tyler; a brother, Richard (Opal) Schultz of Craig, Alaska; and a sister, Nancy (Norman) Kluess of Carlos, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, and a sister. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorials may be directed to Good Shepard Hospice in Hendricks, Minnesota.
