Obituary

Stacey E. Vos, age 45, of Brookings, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at the Brookings Hospital, after battling and living with cancer for five years. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Sunday, March 2, 2008, at First Lutheran Church in Brookings, with interment in Maplewood Cemetery at Luverne, Minnesota. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Saturday at First Lutheran Church. Memorials may be directed to the South Dakota Special Olympics or the Brookings Humane Society. Stacey Ellen (Schneekloth) Vos was born May 7, 1962, in Luverne, Minnesota, to Gerald and Vonna (Lamberton) Schneekloth. She married her high school sweetheart, David Vos, on December 18, 1982, in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Brookings, South Dakota. Dave and Stacey had the joy of celebrating 25 years together in December 2007. Stacey graduated from Luverne High School in 1980. She attended SDSU from 1980 until 1984, graduating with a B.A. degree in HPER Education. While at SDSU Stacey was a member of the lady Jacks basketball team for one year. Her competitive spirit showed in Jacks softball for several years, which continued with the Brookings Womens Softball League. Stacey continued to pursue life-long fitness with her husband at the Powershop Gym, especially on Saturday mornings. Stacey enjoyed spending time with her two sons, Daniel and Michael. She loved coaching, practicing, and being their number one fan. Through her boys nomination, Stacey was selected the Brookings Register Mother of the Year. Stacey touched many lives through her cancer journey. She was keynote speaker for Brookings Relay for Life in 2004. She and her family were overwhelmed by the continued community support shown by multiple benefits that were organized and sponsored by local businesses, individuals, and First Lutheran Church. Stacey spent 13 years with the Brookings School District, loving and caring for the preschool children with special needs. In December 1999 she made a career change to work as a scanning coordinator for the Brookings HyVee store. She kept her many friends at Central Elementary while making new ones at HyVee. Grateful to have shared her life are her husband, David, and two sons, Daniel and Michael, of Brookings; a sister, Margo (Steve) Timmerman, of Bloomington, Minnesota; two brothers: Mark (Glenda) Schneekloth of Luverne, Minnesota, and Scott (Pam) Schneekloth of Luverne; her father and mother-in-law, Homer and Fran Vos, of Hardwick, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Anna (Dan) Schuler, of Wishek, North Dakota; nieces and nephews; and her many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
