Sidney Peters, age 94, of Brookings and formerly of White, passed away December 25, 2019, in Sioux Falls under hospice care. Memorial services will be 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with a private family burial at Fairview Cemetery in White. Visitation will be 10:00-11:30 A.M. Tuesday, also at the funeral home.

Sidney Albert Peters was born May 12, 1925, to George and Adelena (Thoelke) Peters in Brookings County, South Dakota. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school and White High School.  Sid worked on the family farm and for other local farmers, until he entered the United States Army in October of 1945.  After his honorable discharge in June of 1947, Sid worked in construction until returning to farming in 1965.  He farmed until his retirement in 1992.

Sid married Lucille Mae Hicks on February 1, 1951, in Pipestone, MN. They were blessed with three children.  Sid was an active member of the White community where he served on the Oak Lake Township Board, White Care Center board, trustee of the United Methodist Church in White, and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

Sid was a lifelong learner and inventor of helpful gadgets. He was an avid reader and loved woodworking, word puzzles, watching the birds, and enjoying a good western movie.

Survivors include his children, Lyle (Donna) Peters of Colorado Springs, Brian (MaryLee) Peters of Sioux Falls, and Sandra (Glen) Long of Watertown; grandchildren, Mindy Long of Watertown, Brett (Mandy) Peters of Aurora, CO, Shawn (Ann) Peters of Sioux Falls, Molly Peters of Sioux Falls, and Zach Peters of Brighton, CO; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille; four sisters, Ivey Skarsten, Evelyn Miller, Mildred Midtovne, and Mary Ellen Clarin; one brother, Robert Peters; and one grandson, Scott Long.
