Shirley Kathryn Marie (Molly, Katrina) Moe was born on May 27, 1924, to Martin and Ida (Olsen) Moe in Superior, Wisconsin. Shirley was the middle child and only daughter with an older brother Wayne and later joined by younger brother Sherman. Shirley grew to adulthood on 18 th street in Superior. She attended and graduated from Superior High School in 1942. While in school Shirley was active in concert orchestra and played the violin. During her high school years, she worked at Bridgeman's Ice Cream Parlor and continued doing so following her graduation.

Shirley met the love of her life Robert "Bud" Lundgren in high school. During their courting years they enjoyed dances, roller skating and ice skating, golfing, and riding Shirley's Indian motorcycle (she drove of course). Shirley enjoyed watching Bud play hockey, baseball, and golf while enjoying a cold Nesbitt orange or grape soda.

Shirley and Bud were married in Superior, Wisconsin on February 25, 1943. They welcomed their first born, daughter Janice Kay on May 6, 1943. Dennis Robert on February 22, 1947, Bruce Allen on November 10, 1948, and Dawn Marie on October 5, 1958, completed the family. Two daughters were born and gained their angel wings shortly after birth on September 6, 1952, and July 14, 1953.

Shirley and Bud lived in many cities throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota before making Elkton, South Dakota their home after purchasing the Elkton Record. Shirley spent many years as a cook at SDSU in Brookings working for many different corporations. She retired from SDSU shortly before her 80 th birthday in 2004. Shirley is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Elkton and the White Chapter of the Eastern Star. Shirley enjoyed bowling on teams with her son Denny, daughter Dawn, and husband Bud. She bowled in several leagues over the years in Brookings and Pipestone, MN, as well as participating in several SD state tournaments. Shirley loved watching sports and talking about sports to anyone who asked. Her favorites were the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and North Stars (now the Wild). Her TV was always tuned to sports of some kind. Shirley was mom to many including Beth (Kampmann) Reid who went just about everywhere with Dawn and Shirley (mom). One such adventure was a trip to the cities for the Osmond Brothers concert in 1971.

Shirley and Bud had a seasonal lot on Lake Shetek and for many years enjoying escaping to the tranquility of the lake. They made many life-long friends including Steve and Becky Ackerman, and Jen and Jolene, who became family. Shirley, grandma enjoyed having the grandchildren come and stay and always made sure to have plenty of quarters for the game room. She was the best cook and made the best Chow Mein and Swedish meatballs. Her cut-out Christmas cookies were always the first to go and gone before Christmas. She would end up having to make more with her trusty "Hamilton Beach" mixer.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bud", April 21, 2006; her daughter Janice (Lundgren) Utoft, July 3, 2013, and husband, Gary Utoft, February 23, 2015, her son Dennis, July 8, 2017; her grandsons Joel Lundgren, June 30, 2014, and Christopher Utoft, February 23, 2020.
