Scott Alan Filler was born to Sue and Elliott (E.W.) Filler and sister, Amanda, on April 27, 1989, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At the age of two, he moved to Brookings, South Dakota. He was baptized at Ascension Lutheran Church.
Scott attended Medary Elementary in Brookings. He began his wrestling and baseball careers and was a member of Cub Scout Troop #4. His middle school education began at Mickelson Middle School in Brookings and finished at Brandon Valley Middle School in Brandon, South Dakota. He continued to wrestle and play baseball. Scott began football, choir and school musicals during this time. Scott attended Brandon Valley High School in Brandon. He continued to be active in wrestling, baseball and football. His athletic highlights included: one touchdown, one homerun, wrestling captain, earning his white letter and placing 2nd in the 2007 SD State High School Wrestling Tournament. He felt he was instrumental in helping to re-establish the BVHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Other school activities included choir and the musicals. He had roles in Annie, Guys and Dolls, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat , and Crazy For You .
Scott was confirmed and volunteered with the children's Christmas program at Brandon Lutheran Church. He spent many hours volunteering in the Avera-McKennan emergency room.
After graduation in 2007, Scott attended Iowa State University for one year majoring in Biology / Pre-med. He loved being a part of the Cyclone Battalion of the Army ROTC. Scott transferred to the University of South Dakota in the fall of 2008 becoming a member of the Prairie Fire ROTC Battalion.
He became a member of Lake Campbell Lutheran Church this fall. His favorite activities included volunteering for youth wrestling and baseball programs, hunting with his dad, spending time with friends and playing video games.
After a long fought battle, Scott tragically took his own life on Monday, January 5, 2009, at his home in rural Volga. His last contribution of his earthly life was to donate his organs and tissues to others. Scott loved and is loved by many.
A private service was held Friday, January 9, 2009, at Lake Campbell Lutheran Church.
