Ruth Irene Olson, 91, of Brookings, formerly of Volga, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church in Volga.  The service will be live-streamed on the First Lutheran Church Facebook page, as well as recorded and uploaded on Monday afternoon on the Eidsness Funeral Home website.  Burial will immediately follow the service at First Lutheran Cemetery in Volga.  Lunch and a time of fellowship will follow the burial at the church.  Visitation will be held the evening prior, Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga form 4:00 until 6:00 P.M.  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the Olson family with arrangements.

Ruth Irene Olson was born on June 6, 1930, to Henry and Coral Langner on the family farm near White, South Dakota.

Ruth was confirmed in First Lutheran Church in Brookings.  She attended country school in Brookings County, SD, and was a graduate of the Brookings High School in 1948.  She was united in marriage to Gene LeRoy Olson on September 19, 1948, at the First Lutheran Church in Brookings.  After their marriage they farmed in the Volga and Sinai area until moving into Volga in 1988.  Gene died on September 19, 2005.

Ruth is a member of the First Lutheran Church, the church circle, and the Simplicity Extension Club.  Along with being active in her church and teaching Bible School, she enjoyed gardening, bowling, watching her grandchildren participate in sporting events, and school activities, and getting together monthly with her high school class of "48".

She is survived by her children: Gary Olson, and Scott (Lynn) Olson, both of Volga, SD, Anita (Steven) Ust and Joan (Rick) VanSambeek of Brookings, SD; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Mary Olson, of Volga.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Coral Langner; husband, Gene Olson; two sons: Steven and Jeff Olson; and two brothers, Edwin and Bob Langner.
