Ruth Leite, age 87, of Volga, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Brookview Manor in Brookings. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 16, 2010, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.
Ruth Isabelle (Jorenby) Leite was born March 21, 1923 at Volga, South Dakota to John and Isabelle (Anderson) Jorenby. Ruth grew up and attended school in Volga, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On June 24, 1944, Ruth married Marvin Leite at her Mothers home in Volga. They farmed on the family farm northwest of Volga and raised six children. From 1966 to 1974 Ruth worked as a secretary for the SDSU English Department.
Ruth was a member of First Lutheran church in Volga. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, gardening, playing Scrabble and card games. Ruth also enjoyed meeting and visiting with friends over a cup of coffee.
Ruth is survived by her children: Steve (Melody Tenhoff) of Rush City, Minnesota; Judy (Ron ) Kopren of Rapid City, South Dakota; Dale (Kris) Leite of Volga, South Dakota; Paul (Beth) Leite of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; Mark Leite of Volga, South Dakota and Tom (Rena) Leite of Rapid City, South Dakota; 12 grandchildren: Scott Leite, Ann Erpelding, Michael Kopren, Aaron Leite, Austin Leite, Matthew Leite, Ethan Leite, Dustin Leite, Andrew Leite, Abby Leite, Amy Leite, and Zachary Leite; three great-grandchildren: Alex Erpelding, Kyle Erpelding, and Kaylee Matt; three sister-in laws; Clarice Kendall of Sioux Falls, Avis Leite of Volga and LuAnn Cavanaugh of Brookings; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters; Pearl Swiggum and Leona Leite; and six brothers: Norman, Raymond, Marvin, Everett, Harold and Oliver and an infant brother.
