Ruth Hulsebus, age 95, of Astoria, SD, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in Sioux Falls, SD. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, SD. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in White, SD.

Ruth Husmann was born on April 8, 1931, in Madison, South Dakota to John & Martha Hussman. Ruth attended Orland Consolidated School near Madison in grades one and two. The family moved to Nebraska in 1938 where she attended rural schools, before attending high school in Leigh, Nebraska, and later going to college at Wayne State College. She went on to teach for ten years before marrying Elmer Hulsebus on June 25, 1955.

Ruth enjoyed teaching, sewing, gardening, traveling, and being with her family. She was a member of First Baptist Church, in White, South Dakota.

Ruth is survived by her two sons Ron (Tammy) Hulsebus of Astoria, SD and Bryan (Ruth) Hulsebus of Sioux Falls, SD, 4 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Hulsebus, parents, John & Martha Hussman, sister, Elvera (Harold) Hassebrook.
