Ruth Gunderson, 84, of Brookings, died from congestive heart failure May 12 at the Brookings Hospital. Ruth L. Rasmussen was born to Fred and Betty Rasmussen at Erwin May 24, 1923. She was raised on the family farm near Erwin and graduated from Erwin High School. On February 13, 1946, she married Lynell Gunderson of Lake Preston. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2007. Mr. Gunderson was a game biologist with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and following his retirement, the couple made their home in Brookings. They had lived here nearly 30 years. Mrs. Gunderson is survived by three children: Carolyn (Ken) Curley of Brookings; Craig (Susan) Gunderson of Loveland, Colo.; and Gary (Aline) Gunderson of Paris, France. She is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A private, family service is planned for a later date. Condolences may be sent to P.O. Box 546, Brookings, S.D. 57006.
