Russell Reeter, 87, of Volga, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at the Neighborhoods at Brookview.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Volga, South Dakota.  Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Russell Jaques Reeter was born on June 13, 1929 to Edwin Arthur and Reva Grace (Jaques) Reeter on a farm near Bancroft, South Dakota. He graduated from Brookings High School in 1947.  After high school he followed his parents and moved to Steele, North Dakota.  There he met Joyce Christine Whitney and they returned to South Dakota after their marriage on September 22, 1948.  Russell worked for Dahl Hardware and then the Volga Creamery.  To help make ends meet he also started a small part-time business called Russ's Radio and T.V. Repair fixing televisions and radios out of his garage. In 1967 a chance meeting at the Volga Creamery with a Surge Dairy Equipment Dealership Representative inspired him to start his own full-time business, Central Surge Supply, a business which he operated for 30 years.

Russell wore many other hats in his lifetime.  He was a retired member of the Volga Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Volga City Council.  In his younger days, he also worked at the Volga Roller Skating Rink and operated the movie equipment booth at the Volga Auditorium on the weekends.  Russell was also a member of the Volga Masonic Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star.

In addition to being a man of many talents and trades, Russ was known for his love of fishing and could be found at the lake every free moment he had.  During his younger days he and his family built a lake cabin on Lake Poinsett, which still stands today on the north side of the present day hotel.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 68 years.  To this union they brought three children into the world: Charlene (Rodney) Kosters of Pierre, SD; Linda Harte of Volga, SD; Bob (Mary) Reeter of Volga, SD as well as six grandchildren: Tim (Becky) Kosters, of Sturgis, SD; Lucas (Sara) Kosters of Alexandria, MN; Roxanne Harte of Yuma, AZ; Christine (Bryon) Olson of Sioux Falls, SD; Gregory and Kimberly Reeter of Volga, SD.  In addition, he was blessed with nine great grandchildren: Gracie and Eric Kosters; Aubrey, Brynn, Camden, and Rogan Kosters; and Lily, Emma, and Jeffrey Olson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin & Reva Reeter; a brother, Darrell Reeter and his wife Yvonne ; and a son-in-law, Jeff Harte.
