Russell wore many other hats in his lifetime. He was a retired member of the Volga Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Volga City Council. In his younger days, he also worked at the Volga Roller Skating Rink and operated the movie equipment booth at the Volga Auditorium on the weekends. Russell was also a member of the Volga Masonic Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star.
In addition to being a man of many talents and trades, Russ was known for his love of fishing and could be found at the lake every free moment he had. During his younger days he and his family built a lake cabin on Lake Poinsett, which still stands today on the north side of the present day hotel.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 68 years. To this union they brought three children into the world: Charlene (Rodney) Kosters of Pierre, SD; Linda Harte of Volga, SD; Bob (Mary) Reeter of Volga, SD as well as six grandchildren: Tim (Becky) Kosters, of Sturgis, SD; Lucas (Sara) Kosters of Alexandria, MN; Roxanne Harte of Yuma, AZ; Christine (Bryon) Olson of Sioux Falls, SD; Gregory and Kimberly Reeter of Volga, SD. In addition, he was blessed with nine great grandchildren: Gracie and Eric Kosters; Aubrey, Brynn, Camden, and Rogan Kosters; and Lily, Emma, and Jeffrey Olson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin & Reva Reeter; a brother, Darrell Reeter and his wife Yvonne ; and a son-in-law, Jeff Harte.
