Ruby Watt, age 93, died Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at the United Living Community in Brookings. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 22, 2012, at Pioneer Lutheran Church near White, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Ruby Rose (Krenz) Watt was born January 22, 1919, in Deuel County, to Albert E. and Lena (Vogt) Krenz. She grew up in Deuel County, and attended Norman District No. 39 country school. She cleaned homes for neighbors, and then attended Stewart Beauty Academy for six months. She was a beauty operator for a short time before getting married. During World War II she worked for Munsingwear in the Twin Cities making undergarments for the troops. On November 20, 1946, she married Allan G. Watt at Estelline. They farmed south of Brookings and then moved to their farm west of White. After they retired from farming they moved into Brookings. Allan died September 5, 2007. Ruby was a member of Pioneer Lutheran Church and was active in the ladies' group. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to crochet, work crossword puzzles, and quilting. In her early years she loved to write poems. Survivors include five children: Lynnette (Harlan) Hartman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Kathleen (Donald) Sheehan of Littleton, Colorado, Anita (Douglas) Swenson of Flagstaff, Arizona, Greg (Cynthia) Watt of White, South Dakota, and Janelle (Paul) Ster of Marion, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Merlyn Krenz, of Lewiston, Minnesota; and a sister, Phyllis Ohnstad, of Grantsburg, Wisconsin.
