Ruby Crowe Funeral Service Folder Inside

Ruby M. Crowe, age 98 of Brookings and formerly of Lake Norden, SD, passed Thursday, July 11, 2019, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview. Memorial services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden.  Eidsness Funeral Home of Brookings is handling the arrangements.

Ruby Marie Crowe was born on March 21, 1921, to Henry H. and Margaret Riter in Willow Lake, SD. She lived on the farm with her parents and siblings, and as a teenager, she resided in Williow Lake during the winter months to attend Willow Lake High School.  She graduated in 1939.

Ruby moved to the west coast in the fall of 1939; settling in the Los Angeles, CA area. She was united in marriage to Johnny B. Wallis, Jr. on September 27, 1943, until his death the following year while serving the United States Army in WWII.

On January 26, 1952, Ruby was united in marriage to Raymond Starr Crowe in Phoenix, AZ, eventually making a permanent family residence in Los Angeles, CA. Ray and Ruby welcomed their daughter, Lisa Doreen Crowe in 1955.

Leaving California in 1972, the Crowe family settled briefly in Cavalier, ND. Ruby enjoyed many years living at Lake Poinsett, SD, in the home that she and Ray built together until Ray's death in 1992.  Ruby moved into Lake Norden, SD, the following year, where she resided until moving into nursing home care in Brookings in 2018.

Ruby was a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Lake Norden. Many of Ruby's days were spent quilting, volunteering, supporting the prayer chain, and many other contributions in service to her church and community.  Ruby also enjoyed going to Saturday bingo and playing cards with friends, watching Tiger Woods play golf, and watching the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings games.  She was also an avid reader, crossword puzzle expert, and listener of classical and jazz music.  Ruby went home to her Lord on July 11, 2019, at the age of 98 years.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husbands, Johnny Wallis and Raymond Crowe; parents, Henry and Margaret Riter; sister, Fern Raines; and brother, Harold (Francis) Riter.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa (Randy) Pierce of Brookings; grandson, Josh (Danielle Johannesen) Juntunen of Crookston, MN; granddaughter, Elisabeth Juntunen and great-granddaughter, Ella Rose McCaffrey of Sioux Falls; great-granddaughter, Tess Heidenreich of Faulkton, SD; grandson, Colin (Lynda) Pierce and great-granchildren, Owen and Emma of Bruce, SD; granddaughter, Rachel (Darin) Janes and great-grandson, Jacob of Hetland, SD; sisters, Janet Jacobson of Dennison, IA, and Joyce Schoenbeck of Watertown, SD; brothers, Lloyd (Margaret) Riter of Watertown, and Delbert (Sylvia) Riter of Lake Norden, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
