Roy M. Sundberg, age 71, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at his home in Volga, South Dakota. Visitations will be 6-8 P.M. Thursday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. A memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel, Volga. Roy Manford Sundberg was born January 19, 1943, at Arlington, South Dakota, to George L. and Pearl L. (Corey) Sundberg. He grew up and attended school in Arlington. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 until 1965. After his discharge from the Navy he went to California and got a job with General Telephone & Electronics. On September 19, 1970, Roy married Alice E. Schuyler in Anaheim, California. After working for GTE/Verizon for 37 years, Roy retired in 2002, when he and Alice moved to Volga. Roy kept busy in his retirement as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Hope Haven Wheelchairs. He worked at the Meadow Creek Golf Course in Volga. He was a "Mr. Fix-It" and enjoyed woodworking, walking, biking, golf, and pickleball. Survivors include his wife, Alice, of Volga; a daughter, Deborah (Dave) Dvorak, of Harrisburg, South Dakota; a son, David (Carla) Sundberg of Santa Rosa, California; grandsons, Cameron and Sawyer; four brothers: Jim of Grafton, Wisconsin, Terry of Fond-du-lac, Wisconsin, Gary (DeAnn) of Volga, and Lonnie (Beth) of Arlington, South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
