Obituary

Roy Allen Stacey was born March 5, 1940, at Mitchell, South Dakota, to Harry and Doris (Sprague) Stacey. He died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 23, 2003, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Roy graduated from Farmer High School and attended South Dakota State University. He worked at various jobs until establishing a screen printing business in Rapid City. He married Peggy Bradfield on June 14, 1969, in Rapid City, and they made their home in Dark Canyon outside of Rapid City, Hill City, and then Spearfish. They purchased the business in 1985 and continued operating it until 1993 when they sold it to fulfill Gods call to ministry. Roy was pastor at Sioux Valley Baptist Church in Dell Rapids while attending North American Baptist Seminary. He graduated in 1996 and then became pastor at Cherokee Baptist Parish, Cherokee, Iowa, until moving to the Brookings area in January 2000, where he became pastor of First Baptist Church in Brookings. He was active in jail ministry at the Lawrence County Jail, and continued serving at the South Dakota State Penitentiary and Brookings County Jail. Roy coached Little League soccer in Spearfish. He had been active in the Masonic lodge, serving as Master of Tin City Lodge in Hill City, Grand Orator for the South Dakota Grand Lodge, and Potentate of Naja Shrine in Deadwood, South Dakota. While he enjoyed hunting and fishing, his passions were sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Peggy, of Aurora, South Dakota; their children: Tonia (Darrick) Gutting Anchorage, Alaska, and Matt (Lori) Stacey of Carpenter, South Dakota; his daughters Karmen (Paul) Thompson of Lead, South Dakota, and Rhonda Skorr of Garretson, and his son, Mike Gehrke of Hills, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; four sisters: Stacey Palmer of El Segundo, California, Colleen Stacey of Rochester, Minnesota, Collette (Bob) Oda of Stewartville, Minnesota, and Margaret (Lloyd) Cox of Alexandria, South Dakota; two brothers: Tom Stacey of Alexandria, South Dakota, and Erle Stacey of Shakopee, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
