Obituary

Rosina Henley Thielsen, age 96, of Volga, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at her daughters home in Brandon, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 7, 2007, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Saturday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Rosina Elizabeth (Tibke) Thielsen was born September 21, 1911, in Grant County, North Dakota, to John and Elizabeth (Steyer) Tibke. She attended country school in North Dakota, and graduated from high school in 1929. She continued her education in Dickenson, North Dakota. On August 8, 1932, she married Oliver Henley. Rosina taught country school for many years in North and South Dakota. In 1969 she received her degree in teaching from General Beadle College in Madison, South Dakota. She taught grade school for eight years in Hayti and eight years in Volga. Oliver died in November 1974. On July 12, 1980, she married Kermit H. Thielsen at Volga. After their marriage, they farmed in Moody County until moving to Volga in 1981. Kermit died December 31, 1997. Rosina was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga, the Order of the Eastern Star, Extension Club, and the Dakota State Alumni Association. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, dancing, playing cards, and bowling, and she was a member of the South Dakota Bowling Hall of Fame. Survivors include two daughters: Darlene Petersen and her husband James of Brandon, South Dakota, and DiAnn Kothe and her husband Larry of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a son: Garney Henley and his wife Charlotte of Huron, South Dakota; a daughter-in-law, Janice Henley, of Watertown, South Dakota; a step-daughter, Karen Eikmeier and her husband Glen, of Pipestone, Minnesota; a step-son, Lonnie Thielsen and his wife Ninasue, of Flandreau, South Dakota; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son, Harold; six brothers; and three sisters.
