Obituary

Rosella Rosie Gloseclose, age 83, of Brookings, died Monday, January 24, 2011, at the Brookings Hospital. Her wish was to be cremated. A family viewing and memorial service was held in Brookings. A celebration of Rosies life will take place at the Onida Cemetery at a future date to be announced. Condolences may be sent to the family at 400 S. 5th St., Onida, SD 57564.

Rosella Groseclose was born February 1, 1927, in Pierre, South Dakota, to Earl and Ada Kennedy. She graduated from Onida High School in 1945 and taught country school in Sully County. She married the love of her life, Richard Dick Groseclose on June 1, 1946, at Pierre. To this union, five daughters were born.

Rosie was a long-time resident of Onida until 1997 when she and Dick made their home in Brookings. She served the Sully County community in various venues. One of these was as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, no-nonsense attitude, and her skill as a card shark. There was never a family gathering in which Rosie came out a loser when playing cards. She loved to tell jokes and enjoy a house filled from wall to wall with friends and family as they visited throughout the year.

Survivors include her five daughters: Sharyn (Guy) Archer of Brookings, Suzanne (Jerry) Gregg of Boise, Idaho, Tamra (Lawrence) Serbousek of Denver, Colorado, Jodi (Earl) Broker of Sioux Falls, and Rory (Rodney) Mennenger of Onida, South Dakota; and grandchildren: Nicole, Dustin, and Trent Archer, Alicia Borst, Natalie and Brook Gregg, Mandy, Ashley, and Jessica Serbousek, Levin and Lane Broker, and Justin and Jerika Mennenger. She was also the proud great-grandmother of eight great-grandchildren, and one on the way. She is also survived by one sister, Doris (Gerald) Weischedel of Onida. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard, two brothers, four sisters, and one granddaughter, Kenlyn K. Archer.
