Rose Agnes Osika, age 82, of Brookings, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings, South Dakota. Memorial mass will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at the Mother of God Monastery in Watertown, South Dakota. Memorials may be directed to the Mother of God Monastery in Watertown, South Dakota, McCrory Gardens, Brookings Public Library, or United Retirement Center. Rose Agnes (Zuroske) Osika was born February 25, 1923, at rural Richmond, Illinois, to George and Ida (Haun) Zuroske. Rose had ten siblings and grew up on a farm in Wisconsin and northern Illinois. She attended grade school in Walworth County, Wisconsin, and graduated from high school in Richmond, Illinois. Rose married Louis Osika on November 19, 1952, at Ascension Church in Harvey, Illinois. She was a mother and homemaker for many years. Rose lived in Calumet City, Illinois, and later moved to Norway, Michigan, in the upper peninsula. She enjoyed reading and walks in the woods. She worked at a wood products factory in Kingsford, Michigan, for about fifteen years. Louis died in Calumet City, Illinois, on April 22, 1977. Rose moved to Brookings in 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Sister Lynn Osika, OSB, of Mother of God Monastery of Watertown, South Dakota; two brothers: Fred (Delores) Zuroske, of Rockford, Illinois, and John (Martha) Zuroske, of New Llano, Louisiana; a sister, Kay (Barney) Rapp of Roseburg, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Jim, John, George, Stanley Stash, and Andrew Zuroske; and a sister, Norene Zirzow.
