Ronald "Toby" Tyler, age 69, passed away at his home in White on March 19, 2014, after a hard fought battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 24, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in White. Interment of cremated remains will be in Fairview Cemetery at White. Visitations will be from 4-7 P.M. Sunday at the United Methodist Church. Ronald "Toby" Roy Tyler was born December 31, 1944, to Roy and Alice (Burns) Tyler in Hendricks, Minnesota. He attended elementary school in Sherman Township and graduated from White High School in 1962. On February 15, 1964, he married Wanda Cramer in Estelline, South Dakota. He worked on the section crew for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for two years. In 1966, he completed a correspondence course in radio and TV electronics and was employed by Sears in their service department. After the death of his parents in 1967 & 1968, he and Wanda became guardians for his brother, Lowell. They lived on the Tyler farm which was homesteaded by his grandfather in 1880. He opened his own TV service business in 1968 in the Gamble's store in Brookings. In 1973, Toby and Wanda opened Tyler TV & Appliance. They sold the business in 1994 and Toby continued as Toby's Electronics until he became ill. Toby was very talented in many ways. He enjoyed repairing and restoring cars. He liked to play guitar and had his own band for several years. He could fix absolutely anything and was very innovative, often fabricating his own tools and parts, as needed for different projects. He was very particular in everything he did, often not content until done to his satisfaction. He was proud of his concrete work on the new house and garage, as well as the storage unit. He was very entertaining with his unique storytelling abilities, often making short stories long. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda; his children: Kevin (Katherine) Tyler of DuBois, PA; Tamara (Jeffery) Harding of Queen Creek, AZ; and Kathy (David) Stelten of Zimmerman, MN; his grandchildren: Morgan & Mason Tyler and Taylor Stelten. He is also survived by his brother, Lowell (Dawn) Tyler, Dawson, MN; his half-sister Ardith (Vernon) Gillespie, of Grover Beach, CA; and his sister-in-law Doris Tyler. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Troy and Brian, and half-brothers Vernon (Ellen) and N.M. "Bud" Tyler.
