Obituary

Ronald W. Rottluff, 69, died Sunday, May 25, 2014, in Hospice at the White Senior Living Center in White. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Eidsness Funeral Home In Brookings. Ronald William Rottluff was born April 21, 1945, in Ramona. He graduated from Oldham High School and joined the Navy in 1964 - 1967. He was a boiler operator on the USS Bennington. He was in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War and traveled to Pearl Harbor, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, and the Philippines during his service. Ron developed a love for photography while in the Navy, purchasing many different kinds of cameras and flashes using both film and slide media. He attended Lake Area Vo-tech School in Watertown. He married Myrna Baggesgaard in 1968, and to that union were born three children, Karie Ann, Tracie Lee, and Daniel William Rottluff. He milked cows, farmed and had a wide variety of job opportunities. They divorced. He remarried Charlotte Thompson in 1991 which added two step-children, Vickie Dennis and Laura Dennis, to the family. They had the opportunity to live in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Minnesota in the last 13 years. Ronald enjoyed all outdoor activities, deer, pheasant, goose, and duck hunting, and he spent many hours fishing. He enjoyed reloading his own ammunition to use during the hunts. He loved to read, especially hunting and gun magazines, and many different kinds of books. Ronald is survived by three children: Karie Mohamed of Brookings, Tracie (Jay) Schoenfelder of Brookings, and Daniel (Stacy) Rottluff of Colorado; one step-daughter, Laura Clark, of Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren: (Karie) Amir, Yossry, Tasneem, Doha, (Tracie) Ashley, Sturgis, Bailey, (Dan) Samantha; three step-grandchildren (Vickie) Jonathon, Amber (Laura) Bryan and one great-step-grandchild (Amber) Cara ; five sisters: Mary (Ken) Hammer of Mitchell, Mavis Iwerks of Sioux Falls, Maxine (Dennis) Bickett of Sioux Falls, Carol (Spencer) Blum of St. Paul, MN, and Betty (Don) Hoff of Madison; one brother, Rodney Dean Rottluff, of Oldham; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Pearl Rottluff; a step-daughter Vickie Dennis; and two brothers-in-law, Leonard Junker, and Bob Iwerks.
