Obituary

Ron Duehr, age 74, of Brookings, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at the Southridge Health Care Center in Sioux Falls. Visitations will be 5-7 P.M. Sunday at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Private family interment services will be held at First Lutheran Cemetery in Brookings.

Ronald Maurice Duehr was born November 4, 1936, at Sisseton, South Dakota, to J.M. Bud and Esther (Ring) Duehr. He grew up in Browns Valley, Minnesota, and graduated from Browns Valley Public School. He attended SDSU in 1954. In 1955 he joined the army and served for 18 months in Korea. Upon discharge he returned to SDSU and graduated with a B.S. degree in 1961 and a M.S. degree in 1963.

On November 6, 1960, Ron married Linda Mary Stokes at Midway Lutheran Church in rural Moody County. In 1963, they moved to LeSeuer, Minnesota where Ron was employed as a mycologist with the Green Giant Company. In 1965 Ron was transferred to Niles, Michigan where he was agricultural superintendent for the Grown Fresh Mushroom Company.

In 1970 the family moved back to Brookings where Ron and Linda operated the Ron-Lin Mushroom Farm. In 1976 Ron was employed by the 3M Company. After 24 years of service as a microbiologist Ron retired. Linda died in 2005.

Ron enjoyed fishing, yard and garden work, and especially times with his grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons: Bryan (Caryl) Duehr of Brookings, and Neal (Victoria) Duehr of Sioux Falls; a daughter: DeVonne (Michael) Powell of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his mother, Esther Duehr of Browns Valley, Minnesota; and two sisters: Sharon (Don) Pistorius of Sisseton, South Dakota, and Ione (Greg) Frederic, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by Linda, his lovely wife of 44 years, and his father.
