Obituary

Roger R. Ivers, age 88, of Brookings, SD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at St. Williams Care Center in Milbank, SD. A Visitation will take place from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, December 22, 2025, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, SD.

Roger Rae Ivers was born on July 7, 1937, in Mandan, North Dakota, the 2nd son of 5, to Vernon and Gladyce (Skotvold) Ivers. He attended school at Watauga SD, and graduated from McIntosh, SD., class of 1955.  Following high school, he attended watch and clock repair school in Peoria, Illinois, and worked in Smidt's Jewelry in Rapid City.  Roger then spent the next 3 years in the US Army as a radar operator, in California, Colorado, and Ohio.

Roger married the love of his life, Donna Jo Schulz, from McLaughlin SD on May 20, 1960.  To this union, three children were born: Lori, Skot and Kevin (Bo).  After the Army, Roger continued his education at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD. and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, with a minor in Math.

Roger immediately took on a lifetime of careers in the banking industry. He started his career as a credit analyst for First Federal Savings & Loan in Rapid City, SD, before being promoted to Vice President, and became Branch Manager in Sturgis, SD in 1976.  Following 28 years in the banking industry, he worked six more years as Quality Control Manager at Magnum Diamond Corp. in Rapid City and Claremont, CA.

Roger was involved and a part of numerous associations, including: President, Sturgis Community Federal Credit Union, Board of Directors, Sturgis Community Health Care Center (President· 3 Terms), Board of Directors - Heritage Acres (President- 2 Terms), Board of Directors - Chamber of Commerce, Board of Directors - Mountain View Nursing Home (President- 2 Terms) , President - Rapid City Jaycees, and President of the Rapid City Fair Board. He loved to sing in the choir at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis, and was honored to serve on the Sturgis VFW Honor Guard at the National Cemetery for 16 years.

In his spare time, he refinished dozens of pieces of antique furniture and repaired antique clocks and watches for the Sturgis community.

In 2020, Roger and Donna moved to Brookings SD, to be closer to family.

Roger is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna Jo Ivers; 1 brother, Gordon (Jhane): three children, Lori (Scott) Herrick, Bo (Reenie) Ivers and Skot (Tami) Ivers; 9 grandchildren and 5-3/4 great-grandchildren (due in January '26).

He was preceded in death by both his parents, Vernon and Gladyce, and 3 brothers, Kenneth, Robert, and Gary.
