Roger LeRoy Hornby, age 71, of Westminster, Colorado, passed away July 5, 2019, in hospice care. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.
Roger Hornby was born May 8, 1948, to Robert H. and Arloene V. (Jensen) at Brookings, S.D. He was raised on the farm south-east of Aurora, S.D. In 1964, Roger was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Brookings. In 1966, he graduated from Elkton High School, and then went to Illinois to work in a car factory.
In 1968, Roger moved to Denver, CO, to go to school to become a mechanic. He then ran a 7-11 store for a time before going to work for Noble Trucking with became Noble Sysco and eventually became Sysco Trucking. Roger continued working there until his retirement. Roger loved riding his Harley Motorcycle and working on and racing his race car #36.
Roger is survived by his son, Walker (Christie) and their children, Cian, Aaron, Amelia, and Nichole; his daughter, Veronica (Lawrence) Underwood and her daughter Reagan all of Colorado; sister, Sandra Stoltenberg of Brookings; sisters-in-law, Doris Hornby of Brookings and Jane Peterson of Cannon Falls, MN; and his nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his very special friends, Phil and Ramona Bell of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Arloene; sisters, Madalen and Judith; brothers, Blayne and James; niece, Judith Kay; and brother-in-law, Herb Stoltenberg.
