Robert M. Volkers, 49, died Friday, March 7, 2003, at his home near Volga, South Dakota, of leukemia. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at the Volga Christian Reformed Church with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4-8 P.M. Monday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Robert Mitchell Volkers was born October 1, 1953, to Herman and Alice (Mans) Volkers. He graduated from the Volga Christian School in 1969 and from Sioux Valley High School in 1971. On July 8, 1978, he married Marla Hengeveld in Hartley, Iowa. He farmed his whole life around Volga. Robert was a member of the Volga Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon. He also served on the Volga Christian School Board. He sold Golden Sun Feed and Pioneer Seed, and was a certified crop adviser. He was an avid sports fan. Survivors include his wife, Marla, of Volga; three daughters: Melanie Volkers and her fiance, Derry Pool, of Fargo, North Dakota, and Roxanne and Rachel Volkers, of Volga; his mother, Alice Volkers, of Volga; two sisters: Sally (Lawrence) VanderWal and Susan (Dale) VanderWal, both of Bruce; and a brother, Gene (Brenda) Volkers, of Volga. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant nephew.
