Robert Bob Trewatha, age 50, of White, South Dakota, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, of cancer. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 7, 2009, at the Deubrook High School Gymnasium in White, with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-8 P.M. Wednesday at the school, with a prayer service at 8:00 P.M., followed by a public Masonic service. Eidsness Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Robert Alan Hershel Trewatha was born April 1, 1959, at Lake Preston, South Dakota, to Robert H. and Marleane (Field) Trewatha. Bob received his education at various schools including Huron, Sibley, Worthington, and Oldham where he graduated in 1977. He attended Augustana College and Dakota State College and graduated in 1982 with a bachelors degree in education. He married Mary Elizabeth Schnell on June 4, 1982, at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Oldham, South Dakota.
Bob began teaching at Deubrook High School in 1982, first math and then computers. He also coached football, volleyball, basketball, track, and golf, and was the yearbook adviser. He taught drivers education and adult education classes. In December 2008 he received his masters degree from Dakota State University.
Bob was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Parish in White, where he served as a lay eucharistic minister, and lector. He served as Worshipful Master of Washington Lodge No. 111 of White, and was currently secretary-treasurer. He was working on his certification as an EMT. He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as camping and golfing. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Trewatha, of White; three daughters: Jennifer Trewatha (fianc Terry Kreutzberg) of Rapid City, Sarah Trewatha (fiance James Van Briesen) of White, and Katherine Trewatha (fianc Chris McVey) of White; a grandson, Robert Alan McVey; three sisters: Janean (Jerome) Woodcock of Lake Preston, Corinne (Gale) Lorenzen of Milbank, South Dakota, and Paulette Rademaker of Milbank; a brother, Greg (Mimi) Trewatha of Renner, South Dakota; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father; and mother-in-law.
