Robert Dale Orcutt, 90, died on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at the Neighborhoods in Brookings, SD. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 9, 2026, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, SD. Interment will follow at First Lutheran Cemetery in Volga, SD. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at First Lutheran Church in Volga.

Robert was born on July 2, 1936, in Dell Rapids, SD, the son of Kermit and Julia Hoover, and later adopted by Ray and Alpha Orcutt.

Robert grew up in Dell Rapids where he attended Dell Rapids Public School. He participated in many sports including basketball, football, track, baseball and softball. He was a graduate of the Dell Rapids High School in 1954. He continued his education at the South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, SD. After his freshman year he enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1955 until 1958. He served a year in Germany, and continued his education at the South Dakota School of Mines, and graduated with a Civil Engineering degree in 1962.

Robert was united in marriage to JoAnn Hansdahle on May 26, 1962. He was then employed by Iowa Highway Commission in Cherokee, IA, for one year. From 1963 until 1996, he was employed by South Dakota Department of Transportation in Brookings, SD. He retired in 1996, and later employed by Jamir Reclamation until 2002. Robert also sold firewood from 1975 until 2025.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga, SD and served as an usher and greeter and also an active participant in church activities. He enjoyed chopping wood, watching sports, especially SDSU, hunting and fishing, and coffee with his friends.

Bob is survived by his wife JoAnn of Volga, SD; his children Paul (Sharlene) Orcutt of Marion, SD, Richard (Jan) Orcutt of Bloomington, MN, Julie (Jeff) Hopp, of Dallas, Georgia; grandchildren Brianna Orcutt and fiancé Corey Lee of Sioux Falls, SD, Tyler Orcutt of Brookings, SD, Katie Orcutt and fiancé Carl Modl of Minneapolis, MN, Bryan Orcutt of Bloomington, MN and Nathan Orcutt of Minneapolis, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
