Obituary

Robert LaVerne Henninger, age 80 of Brookings, went Home to be with The Lord Saturday morning at his daughter's home under Hospice Care. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, 11/21/13 at his nephew, Donnie Fishers home located in Pawnee City, Nebraska. Preceding this, at 3:30 p.m., will be a gathering of friends & family at his sister, Betty Collins home in Pawnee City, Nebraska. Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting with local arrangements. Robert was born on January 5, 1933 to August and Maggie (Heiniger) Henninger in Bern, Kansas. Robert faithfully served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for Boeing in Seattle, WA from 1956-1963. On December 7, 1957, Robert married the love of his life, Joanne Vernon, in Vancouver, Washington. Together, they were blessed with three children; Bonnie, Brenda, and Shari. Robert worked for the Seattle Center in Seattle, Washington starting in 1963 and retiring as an Operations Crew Chief in 1993. He was a member of the Beacon Lutheran Church where he served as an elder, treasurer, janitor, groundskeeper, was head of the Board of Trustees, and also served as a Deacon. Robert loved to garden, tinker with cars and help others by taking them to church, helping with yard work, or anything else they needed help with. He loved to play cards, dominoes, cribbage, hand & foot, Yahtzee and had a passion for music. He had a very good life. Robert is survived by six sisters; Betty Collins, Alma Rohlmeier, Joann Wickham, Mary Tomlinson, Patricia Melton and Nancy Costello; one brother, Richard Henninger; three daughters; Bonnie (Doug) Knox, Brenda (Bill) Lepley, and Shari (Timothy) Suhr; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and many friends and loved ones in WA, NE, KS, MO, TX, CA, SD, IA and OR. He was a blessing to all who met him and he will be greatly missed. May his Memory be for a Blessing.
