Richard Clayton Ohlsen, age 71, of Brookings, passed away, Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.  Memorial services will be 1:30 P.M. on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.  Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon on Friday.  Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings.

Richard Ohlsen was born on October 30, 1949, in Brookings, SD, to Thomas and Betty (Smith) Ohlsen.  He spent much of his youth growing up on the farm near Arlington, graduating from Arlington High School in 1969.  After high school, Richard was drafted into the United States Army in 1969, proudly serving his country until 1971.  In 1972, Richard reenlisted into the United States Navy, serving until 1974.

On December 23, 1972, Richard was united in marriage to Sheila Krumm, and together they had three children.  The couple later divorced.

Richard worked at 3M for a number of years as a machine operator, janitor, and guard until his retirement.  Following retirement from 3M, Rick worked various jobs to stay busy.

Throughout his life Richard enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, and woodworking.  He was a very talented writer-frequently writing poems for family funerals.

Richard is survived by his three children: Kim (Brian) Klavetter, Shawn (Dawn) Ohlsen, and Kristina (Eric) Anderson; grandchildren: Dylan, Tyler, Kyah, Abigail, Andy, Addyson, and Tasha; one great-grandchild, Marley; and his siblings: Robert (Wilma) Ohlsen, Rebecca (Joe) Brown, and Gregory (RaeMarie) Ohlsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandchild, Michael.
