Raymond Davis, 79, of Brookings, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021, at his residence following long-term health issues. Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings beginning at 1:00 P.M. A time of visitation will immediately precede the service from 12:00 until the time of service. Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the Davis family with arrangements.
Raymond Leroy Davis was born on February 18, 1942, to William and Hazel Davis in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ray spent his younger years and completed his education in Redfield, South Dakota. Raymond eventually made his way from South Dakota to Montana, Minnesota, and back to South Dakota, where he was united in marriage on June 14, 2003 to Joy DeVries in Brookings. Throughout his life he worked as a roofer and delivered the Brookings Register and Argus Leader for many years.
Raymond held many interests in life, including fishing, going on road trips and drives, shopping at Wal-Mart, and building bird houses so that he may watch the many cardinals, blue jays, and gold finches that frequented his yard. Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family, especially partaking in homemade meals and his many pets. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and ability to never take anything too seriously. His kind heart and gentle spirit will be missed by many.
Ray is survived by his wife, Joy Davis; daughters: Charlene Davis and Cheryl Boyda; step-daughter, Vicky DeVries; step-sons: Todd (Sarah) Davis, and Scott Stoll; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Rick (Dee) Davis; sister, Marlys Schack; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Glen, Gene, Jim, Betty, and Ernie; daughter Sarah; step-daughter Dawn; niece Glenda; and special friend Sherry Geu.
