Randy Papka, age 55, of Brookings, died Monday, March 12, 2012, at the Brookings Hospital. Memorial services will be 4:00 P.M. Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. Visitations will precede the service. A luncheon and sharing will follow the service at 5:30 P.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Brookings. Randy Lee Papka was born February 22, 1957, in Brookings, South Dakota, to Duane and Wilma (Heath) Papka. As a child, he lived in Redfield and Custer SD. Upon his return to Brookings, he was an active participant of the many supportive services of Advance. Although health issues were ongoing throughout his life, He never complained. Fighting each obstacle placed in his path, he would call up the strength that a fighter knows and triumph each time. As he overcame the trials before him, his resolve was ever stronger. To his friends and family, he was known as Doctor Houdini. Randy was an avid fan of sporting events, concerts, art festivals and visiting area zoos. Randy is survived by his mother, Wilma, Breckenridge, Minnesota; his three brothers: Steven (Paula) Papka, Wahpeton, North Dakota, Marcus Papka, Breckenridge, Minnesota , and Michael Papka, Bismarck, North Ddakota; his three sisters: Duana (Ed) Meidinger, Jamestown, North Dakota , Deanna Rettig, Oakes, North Dakota, and Lisa (Gene) Parrow, Britton South Dakota; 13 nephews and nieces; 19 great-nieces and nephews; 2 uncles; and an aunt. Also, his special sister, Nicole (Ross) Cochran and daughters: Allie and Sydney; his adopted aunt and uncle, Al and Alice Lunden and his extended family throughout Advance. He was preceded by his father, Duane; his twin brother, Ricky(in infancy); his grandparents, Alfred and Julia Heath, and William and Myrtle Papka; and a great niece, Lilly.
