Obituary

Phyllis K. Moir, age 63, of Volga, died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the Brookings Hospital, from complications of diabetes. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Reformed Church in Volga, with interment in Trinity Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. Phyllis Kay Moir was born February 9, 1944, at Sioux City, Iowa, and adopted by Ronald and Dorothy (Creech) Johnson. She lived in Sioux City throughout her childhood and graduated in 1962 from East High School. On July 10, 1964, she married Greg Moir at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sioux City. She was employed as a secretary throughout her life, working at the U.S. Naval War College in Rhode Island, and the Wildlife, Economics, and HPER Departments at SDSU. Most recently she worked with the Volga Tribune as a bookkeeper and columnist for the RFD News Group, where she contributed articles and her column Blind Faith since 2003. Phyllis was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church of Volga, and attended church, as she was able, at First Reformed Church of Volga. She enjoyed sewing, ceramics, crocheting, and craft projects with her children and grandchildren. When she lost her vision, she taught herself to knit with the help of several friends. Survivors include her husband, Greg Moir, of Volga; a daughter, Jody (Gary ) Schnabel, of Tripp; a son, Jonathon (Nikki) Moir, of Bruce; five grandchildren: Karee, Kortnee, and Taylor Moir, and Jason and Jeffrey Schnabel; and a sister, Wanda Hinkhouse, of Yuma, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son, Patrick.
